Emotion Coaching

We know that children with ADHD need to be praised for their accomplishments since they live in a very fast world compared to you and I.  The frontal lobe is slightly under-developed and lends itself to some level of immaturity in children with the disorder.  By giving your child small tasks to do, and praising them for achieving them, you are giving your child control over their surroundings, which is paramount in helping their self-esteem.

Learning to deal with the emotions of frustration and shame when others tease about your child's limitations and teaching your ADHD child how to cope is important for their well-being.

I will be starting a whole series on "emotion coaching" to teach parents what to do and what not to do when your child has emotional outbursts over the next month or so.  So, stay tuned as I develop this information.
